Biomass pellets are compressed cylindrical fuel units made from agricultural waste, wood residues, and crop by-products. They are a renewable agro-residue fuel that replaces fossil coal. BBI agro pellets are specified at 3800–4200 Kcal/kg with ash below 10% (BBI specification, confirmed by batch lab report on request). They are used in industrial boilers, furnaces, and, at plants that choose to, blended with coal in power-plant boilers.

Yes! Along with high-GCV agro-waste pellets, Bharat Bio Industries manufactures and supplies biomass briquettes (typically 70mm to 90mm diameter; 90mm white coal is our main product). Briquettes suit manual-fired boilers, brick kilns, gasifiers and traditional furnaces, whereas pellets suit automated boiler feeders. Burn time depends on density, feed rate and furnace design, so we suggest a 25 MT trial.

Agro-waste pellets (or agricultural pellets) are manufactured from agricultural residues like cotton stalks, groundnut shells, mustard husks, and crop waste. Wood pellets are made from wood sawdust, shavings, and timber residues. Agro-waste pellets are highly cost-effective and abundant in agricultural states like Gujarat, making them the preferred choice for large-scale industrial boilers, whereas wood pellets are typically used in domestic heating or low-ash specialized setups.

Biomass pellets are smaller (6mm or 8mm) and uniform, which suits automatic screw feeding in modern industrial boilers. Biomass briquettes are larger (typically 70mm to 90mm) and are generally fed manually or used in grate boilers. Pellets suit automated feeders and lower manual handling; briquettes usually cost less per kg and suit manual-fired kilns and furnaces. Choose by your feeding system.

Biomass pellets are made through a 4-step process: (1) Feedstock sourcing from agro-waste, (2) Drying to <10% moisture, (3) Grinding to uniform particle size, and (4) High-pressure extrusion into cylindrical pellets. No additives or binders are used, making them a clean fuel source.

GCV stands for Gross Calorific Value, the total heat released when a fuel is burned completely. BBI agro pellets are specified at 3800–4200 Kcal/kg. Higher GCV means more heat per kg, so less fuel by weight is needed for the same heat. Compare fuels by cost per million Kcal, not cost per kg.

Biomass pellets keep their quality when stored in a dry, covered area away from moisture. Exposure to rain or high humidity raises moisture content and can make pellets swell and crumble, so store them off the ground under cover.

The Ministry of Power policy of 7 November 2025 asks coal-based thermal power plants to blend 5% biomass pellets by weight from FY 2025-26 (plants in the NCR: 5% plus an additional 2%). The obligation is on the power plant, and suppliers do not hold an approved or compliant status. Our pellets are suitable for blending with coal; each plant sets its own fuel specification, so please request our batch lab report to check it against yours.

BBI agro pellets have an ash content below 10% (typically 2–8% depending on feedstock), as per BBI specification. Lower ash means less slagging and less grate cleaning. A batch lab report showing ash content is available on request.

Our pellets are manufactured with moisture below 10% (BBI specification). Higher moisture reduces effective calorific value and causes incomplete combustion. We test moisture per batch and the lab report is available on request.

If biomass pellets absorb moisture (above 12–15%), they will lose their structural integrity, swell, and crumble back into loose raw dust. This reduces their heating efficiency and can clog automatic screw feeding systems. Proper covered storage off the ground is essential.

We test each batch for GCV, ash, moisture, sulphur and bulk density, and share the batch lab report on request, along with delivery documentation. These are our own test reports. BIS standards exist for briquettes (IS 18725:2024) and pellets (IS 18724:2024), but BIS marking is voluntary and we do not claim BIS certification.

We produce biomass pellets in standard 6mm and 8mm diameters, with lengths of 15–40mm. Custom diameters can be arranged for large volume orders with specific boiler requirements.

We keep ash below 10% and source feedstock that is as free as practical from soil, sand and silica contamination, because soil contamination raises ash and slagging risk. Ash fusion behaviour depends on the feedstock and your boiler; ask for the batch lab report and run a 25 MT trial.

Our biomass pellets are specified at a Pellet Durability Index (PDI) of 97.5% or higher (BBI specification). Higher durability means less fine dust in transport and screw feeding. The value can be confirmed on request for your batch.

As of October 2026, biomass briquettes and solid bio fuel pellets are listed at 5% GST (Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate), Schedule I, S.No. 516, in force from 22 September 2025). Coal is taxed at 18% since 22 September 2025, and the Rs 400 per tonne compensation cess has ended. The 57th GST Council (8 October 2026) recommended no change to these rates. Rates can change, so confirm on the CBIC GST rate schedule or with your tax advisor; wood pellets are classified under HSN 4401 31.

Yes. Our primary delivery regions are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. We offer ex-factory pricing from Kadi, Gujarat. Logistics can be arranged by the buyer, or we can assist in connecting with reliable transporters for outstation deliveries.

Raw agricultural residue collection is harder during the rains. To keep deliveries steady for contract clients, we hold dry feedstock stock in covered storage at our Kadi plant. Delivery schedules are agreed in the supply contract.

For Gujarat-based deliveries, we typically dispatch within 2–5 business days of order confirmation and payment. For outstation orders, lead time is 5–10 business days depending on location and transportation availability.

Store biomass pellets in a covered, dry area on a raised wooden pallet to prevent moisture absorption from the floor. Keep away from rain exposure and direct sunlight. Properly stored pellets maintain quality for 6–12 months.

In many industrial boilers, yes, often with little or no modification, but not on a 1:1 weight basis for every coal. Indian coal grades run from G-12 (3700–4000 Kcal/kg) to G-7 (5200–5500 Kcal/kg) per the Ministry of Coal, so higher-grade coal carries more heat per kg and you need more pellets by weight. Our calculator converts by GCV. Check your boiler design and feeder with us; a 25 MT trial is the best test.

Check your Consent to Operate conditions before changing fuel. Fuel changes can need intimation to or consent from the state pollution control board, and stack emissions must stay within your conditions. Biomass fuel generally has low sulphur and replaces coal ash with lower-ash fuel, but results depend on your boiler and pollution control equipment. We do not give regulatory approvals; confirm with GPCB or your consultant.

Biomass ash composition depends on the feedstock and is typically rich in potassium, calcium and silica. Some users send it to brick or cement manufacturers or use it as a soil amendment. Test the ash and check your pollution control board rules before reuse or disposal.

Biomass co-firing means blending biomass pellets with coal in power-plant boilers. The Ministry of Power policy of 7 November 2025 requires coal-based thermal power plants to use a 5% blend (by weight) of biomass pellets from FY 2025-26; plants in the NCR use 5% plus an additional 2%. The obligation is on the plant. Our pellets are suitable for blending with coal; plants set their own fuel specification, so request our batch lab report. The official benchmark for non-torrefied power-plant pellets is moisture below 14% and GCV 2800–3400 Kcal/kg.

Biomass pellets are a renewable agro-residue fuel that replaces fossil coal. Under IPCC guidelines, CO₂ from burning biomass is reported separately from energy-sector fossil totals, while methane and nitrous oxide are still counted. Indian coal emits about 1.55 kg CO₂ per kg at 4000 Kcal/kg (CEA CO₂ Baseline Database v16). We do not call biomass pellets carbon neutral; your own GHG inventory method decides how the emissions are reported.

We are not aware of a subsidy that applies to buying biomass pellets as boiler fuel. MNRE and other ministries run programmes for biomass projects and equipment, with their own eligibility rules. Check the current scheme guidelines with the ministry concerned or your energy auditor.

No. Buying biomass fuel does not by itself earn carbon credits. Under India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency reports biomass emissions as biogenic for obligated entities, and credits come from an obligated entity over-achieving its target or from a registered offset project under an approved methodology. Ask your sustainability adviser how biomass use is treated in your reporting.
